Maija was born at home on a bright sunny day on May 15, 2002. She arrived in this world quickly and into the loving arms of her father and Grandma Carol who were there to assist her mother with the birth. Even from an early age it was apparent that she was a strong, independent individual who made her own decisions.

As she grew and blossomed into the wonderful young woman she was, she embraced life with zest. Her interests were many and varied. She loved music and sang and played the guitar; she enjoyed time with good friends and traveling; she loved animals and could bond with all, especially dogs, in an instant; but more than anything else Maija had a passion for reading and a gift for creative writing.

Service to her community was also important to Maija. Whatever the cause she chose to support or whomever she chose to help, she did so with commitment, joy, and true affection. Maija's big heart and caring extended especially to those who dared to be different. She was a proud member of the WHRHS GSA; a volunteer with the Swedish School of New Jersey; and a Girl Scout with troop 1939 in Long Hill Township earning the Bronze and Silver awards and had started to work on her Gold award. She found her volunteer work with Millington Volunteer Fire Company assisting her father in drills and lessons and her mother in the Ladies Auxiliary particularly gratifying. There were few places she felt more comfortable than the Fire House and she looked forward to following in her father’s footsteps as a volunteer firefighter for Millington Fire Company.
