Obituary for Edward L Roller

Edward Louis Roller died Tuesday, November 9, 2021 in Fredon, NJ. He was 96.

Edward was born December 28, 1924 in White Plains, NY, son of the late Louise (Holle) and Louis H. Roller, residing for many years in Plainfield, NJ. Edward joined the U.S. Navy in May 1944, where he served eight months of sea duty on the USS Chincoteague, and was honorably discharged in June 1946 rated as a Radio Technician (Electronics Technician Mate Second Class).

In May 1948 he married Audrey Elizabeth Young of Ventnor, NJ, and in 1950 he graduated from Newark College of Engineering (now New Jersey Institute of Technology) with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Edward and Audrey moved to Gillette, NJ in 1950, and Edward worked at a variety of positions with firms including Lockheed Electronics in North Plainfield and Ethicon Corp. in Bridgewater before accepting civilian employment with the U.S. Army at Picatinny Arsenal in September 1965. He retired from the U.S. Army in February 1986.

Edward was an amateur radio enthusiast, and belonged to the Splitrock Amateur Radio Association (SARA). He also had an abiding interest in railroads, including model railroads.

Edward was pre-deceased by his wife Audrey in 2020 and his sisters, Evelyn R. Konrad and Kathryn R. Chase.

He is survived by his five children: Karen Roundy (and her husband Kenneth); Nancy Chun (and her husband Eric); Carl Roller (and his wife Marjorie); Wendy Clarkson, and Linda Hill; his brother Richard Roller, and 9 grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Valley Memorial Funeral Home, Gillette, NJ. A memorial service will be held on May 26, 2022 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Millington, NJ at 2:00 PM with a burial on May 28, 2022 i at Plymouth Notch Cemetery, Plymouth, VT at 2:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice or to the NJIT Foundation – Annual Fund.
